Volunteer Information Weekend – Great Success!

Last weekend sixteen volunteers descended on the residential centre at High Ash Farm near Longnor, Buxton, to find out all about this years trips to Belarus. This year we are able to send volunteers to three different locations: Ptich Sanatorium where the holiday camp will take place over three weeks; Rechitsa Boarding Home, an institution on the outskirts of the town of Rechitsa in the Gomel Region where 116 children and young adults live and Zhuravichi Boarding Home that is home to more than 300 young adults. The Zhuravichi volunteers will also visit Vikov, an psychoneurological home for older people. After the introductory ice-breaker games, see below, those volunteers who had been in previous years shared their experiences with the newcomers for this year addressing any questions and concerns. Plans for activities this year were discussed and very informative talks were given by speech and language therapist Hana Whitty and Belarus expert Neil Adams. All volunteers reported that the weekend had been most informative and had made them look forward even more to the summer visits.
