Our Children Are Enjoying Their Holiday
CCP Solihull and our wonderful 2019 group of children have enjoyed an amazing and eventful first week. The children are all well, are becoming great friends and have settled very happily in their pair with their wonderful Host Families.
It’s been a busy and very hot week, but all have enjoyed this weeks trips and activities and a good time has been had by all. The children, doctor and interpreter arrived in Solihull on Saturday, they went home with hosts, then we all met later for a walk in Bruton Park. On Sunday the group met for lovely lunch at Lloyds Conference Centre in Shirley. Monday was spent at Kingsbury Water Park with some great team building exercises; den building and rocket making and firing. Tuesday was a very hot, but very enjoyable day at Severn Valley Railway. On Wednesday,we were so grateful to local dentists The Dental Practice (Monkspath) Abbotsford House Dental Practice (Warstock) and Dental Health Care (Dorridge) who between them kindly saw all 12 children for dental checks and subsequent treatments. Thursday was a lovely day in Stratford, with a river boat trip and a visit to the Butterfly Farm. Friday the children enjoyed learning to play tennis and squash thanks to the Priory Club, Edgbaston. Finally we had a very enjoyable but wet day sailing at Shustoke.
Thanks to the fantastic SKY television drama ‘Chernobyl’ (just out on DVD) We are enjoying great publicity both locally and nationally. As a result we have twice this week been joined by a TV crew, fantastic publicity and our group of children who are delighted to be appearing on television, were amazing:
BBC Midlands Today: Ben Sidwell and cameraman joined us on Tuesday for much of our Severn Valley Railway trip, a lovely report appeared highlighting the visit to Solihull and the fun and health benefits enjoyed. This video has received over 20,000 views!
SKY News: filmed at the Priory Club on Friday. The report is on SKY News today (Sunday) It highlights the health effects of Chernobyl which Dr Yuri explains and Alex and Nikita appear in lovely interviews, they are also shown with host family Will & Alice (McElholm, Cath & Barneys daughter) It’s a great report and amazing for CCP Solihull to have national Television coverage. Saw it this morning on freeview channel at 7.15 and 8.45, currently on the news feed at the bottom of the screen so maybe again at 10.15? and throughout the day. See the online news story here.
Following a day’s rest today, the group will enjoy Warwick Castle, the seaside, meet the Mayor of Solihull, learn to play Bridge, have eye tests at Specsavers, go to Lazerquest and Drayton Manor Park and Flash Climbing Centre, before moving to residential accommodation on Saturday for another action packed 2 weeks.
Thanks to the Host families and everyone involved in this year’s 20th Anniversary visit to Solihull, the children are having the time of their lives.
