Virtual Balloon Race

Take part in a balloon race this Spring Bank Holiday!

Although we can no longer send volunteers to the holiday camps and orphanages in Belarus,  we still hope to fund holidays for some of the residents and young people in remission from cancer.

Anyone who has volunteered at a holiday camp or orphanage in Belarus will be familiar with the word шарик pronounced “shariq”. It is the Russian word for balloon, probably the most popular item with the young people. With that in mind we are raising money to fund the holidays by holding a virtual balloon race over this year’s Spring Bank Holiday.

A virtual race works in the same way as a real balloon race, but the balloons float around their own webpage rather than in the air. Each balloon costs £3 or you can buy 4 for £10. You can follow the race here when it goes live.

On Thursday May 22nd at 12 midday, all the balloons will be released. Every hour each balloon travels between 1km and 20km. At the end of the race on Bank Holiday Monday May 26th at 12 midday the balloon that has travelled the furthest is the winner. There will be prizes for the winners.

Why not try your luck and see if the virtual winds blow in your favour? You can buy balloons for entry into the race in our online shop.

Please note – if you are buying a balloon as a present for someone else, please let us know their name in the “Additional information – Order notes” box at checkout. We will then make sure their name is attached to that balloon tag.

Prizes

We have One4all gift cards for the lucky winners. The balloon that travels the furthest will win first prize –  a £30 gift card for its lucky owner. Second prize will be a £20 gift card and third prize a £10 gift card.
