Funding our work

Local Groups
Our groups all around the country continue to raise large amounts of funds - organising sponsored events, street collections and packing bags in supermarkets, dances and race nights, car boot sales and coffee mornings and making appeals to local churches, Rotary and Lions Clubs and many other sections of their local communities.

Department for International Development

Last year we received £16,000 from the Know How Fund to support our Fostering Training Programme and many other exchange visits of Special Needs Teachers. The British Embassy in Minsk gave us a total of about £15,000 for the building of Family Home 2000 and for many Family Support initiatives, including the setting up of the new Centre at Rogachev for the families of children with disabilities.

This year, through the Health and Social Care Partnerships Programme, we have been awarded a 3 year grant of £26,000 to continue the Foster Care Training Programme and a further £2,000 for exchange visits aimed at improving early support for disabled children.

The British Embassy have awarded us a further £4,000 to fund exchange visits to promote better child care and greater understanding of the needs of children with disabilities in Belarus. This will include a visit in October by an organisation in Minsk working to support teenagers. They will have a very full programme organised for them by Essex County Council.

Victor Zorza Trust

We had sufficient funds left from last year's grant to bring Anna Gorchakova, Director of the Belarussian Children's Hospice to Britain in July to learn more about adult hospices. In the Autumn we will bring a team from the hospices in Gomel and Vitebsk.

We continue to receive excellent support from Manchester City Council and Leeds City Council.

KeyMed - what can we say!
The company continue to give wonderful support to our partner organisations in Belarus, plus many hospitals and family associations. They have given us a van to add to the truck they donated earlier in the year, sponsored most of the sanatorium holiday, and are now offering to fund a number of crucial operations for Belarussian children. They continue to donate endoscopic equipment; Connie Nall and Andy Pritchard conducted a training programme in Gomel in May; and Head of Corporate Affairs, Luke Calcraft will make his second visit to Belarus in October to see the results of KeyMed's support.

Connie is seen here making friends with Christina at Zhuravichi.

Many congratulations to members of our Craven group who completed the Three Peaks (Ben Nevis, Snowdon and Scafell) on the weekend that Scafell was re-opened in June. Linda Akrigg, Rachel Hodgson, Bob Hodgson, Charlie Whiteman, Dave Atkinson were the walkers and Dave Akrigg and Steve Collier did the driving. Between them they raised almost £3,500.
