On a beautiful sunny day in May all the senior figures in the Gomel Regional Executive assembled outside Family Home 2000 at Klimovka, along with many of those who helped us last year to turn our dream into reality and create this home. When Ambassador Iain Kelly arrived he was greeted with the traditional gift of bread and salt and a National Folk Song and then all assembled inside for the Opening Ceremony. There were speeches from Igor Trizno and Linda Walker for Chernobyl Childrens Project; the Directors of Education and Social Protection the Deputy Leader of the Region, Connie Nall from KeyMed; and finally from the Ambassador, in excellent Russian. But the star of the
show was Sasha, who was the original inspiration for creating this home.
He took centre stage and, having delivered his own speech, chipped in
to everyone else's to the delight of all present, including the journalists
and TV cameramen. We hope that she will help to encourage Sasha, Greesha and Liena in their studies. They are already great friends.
