A happy, healthy holiday for Belarussian children
Manchester and Birmingham International Airports once again provided us with free facilities and a warm welcome for the children who flew in on our charter flights this Summer. The children spent four weeks eating good food, relaxing and enjoying numerous outings and activities, many of which were generously supplied by local businesses.

Earlier in the year groups in Teesdale, Endon and Cardiff had hosted young children with their mums. During the holiday six year old Vika was provided with a new hearing aid by the University of Wales Hospital in Cardiff, which dramatically improved her hearing. The Audiology Unit at this hospital is now offering to provide similar care for up to 10 children next year, and to help raise the funds to bring them to Wales.
During the Summer Teenagers in remission after treatment for cancer stayed in Carmarthen, Endon and Aberystwyth. For these young people the psychological boost the holiday gives is almost as important as the physical benefits. Children in remission also stayed in Crewe, Monk Fryston, Leeds, Littleborough, Craven and Cardiff.
Diabetic children came to Buxton and Colchester and Clacton. And youngsters recovering from hospital treatment stayed in Llandinam
Children who live just outside the exclusion zone around the Chernobyl plant came to Solihull, Endon and Gloucester. Youngsters from other villages in Gomel region stayed in Rugby, Catterick, Merseyside and Lower Wensleydale.
Children from Terekhovka, a Children's Centre, near to the Russian border stayed in Witham in Essex and Moray in the north of Scotland.
The Essex group started their holiday with two days of activities at Fairplay House and the Moray children had a great visit to RAF Kinloss.
Almost all the children received dental treatment and many also benefited from a visit to the optician. In Southend, 12 year old Maryna, who suffers from a rare syndrome which has disfigured her face, saw specialists at Chase Farm Hospital in Essex and Great Ormond Street. KeyMed have offered to sponsor plastic surgery for Maryna which will change her life. Sasha Baikov, another 12 year old, had a major cleft palate operation at Royal Lancaster Infirmary, which involved taking a piece of bone from his hip. Many thanks to all involved at the hospital for their generosity and kindness to Sasha during his stay.
