Our sixth annual holiday for the children of Zhuravichi Orphanage will
take place this Summer, once again in the beautiful riverside setting
of Neman Sanatorium.
About 75 children from Zhuravichi with a wide variety of special needs,
plus a few from Rechitsa Boarding School for children with cerebral palsy,
will enjoy three weeks playing in the sunshine. About twenty volunteers
from Britain will organise games, sports, art & craft activities,
music and lots of personal attention for the children.
The visit is being organised this year by Glenda Tracey from Littleborough
who, after her first visit last year, has put much thought into the provisions
needed to give the children an even better holiday and to make life a
little more comfortable for the volunteers.
Helena Walker, taking part in her fifth holiday at Neman, will work with
Glenda to ensure that all runs smoothly in Belarus.
The volunteers raise the money for their flights, and all the rest of
the holiday costs have again been sponsored by KeyMed who continue to
give wonderfully generous support to so many of our projects.
This year, whilst the slightly more able children are having fun on holiday,
a small team of special needs teachers, led by Ellen Charlton from Blantyre,
will work with some of the autistic and cot-bound children who are left
behind.
