Symbol Communication Training

Shirley is a physiotherapist, Sue is a visual impairment specialist and Brian works with older children with disabilities. Shirley’s skills are greatly in demand as there is such a huge need for good physio in Belarus.
Last Autumn Sue held a training session in Gomel in the use of symbols for communication with children who do not speak. This was extremely successful and the Ministry of Education had asked if the same course could be held in Minsk.
Special needs teachers and speech therapists from many parts of Belarus attended the course held at the Republican Rehabilitation Centre. All three members of the team worked to provide training in non verbal communication, and the use of appropriate seating for the children. The Ministry were delighted with this and hope that Sue will organise more training in the future.
