Special needs team visit to Belarus

Russell Kirby with Nazar

In April, Russell Kirby and Jan Cooey of Manchester Disabled Children’s Team, plus Lyn Shea, Head of the Milestone School in Gloucester, accompanied CCP National Co-ordinator Linda Walker on a visit to Belarus. They met representatives of social services, special needs education
and associations of families with disabled children, and they went to special schols and orphanages and visited our family homes at Klimovka and Rogachev.
Towards the end of the week we held a round table discussion to bring people from the state and voluntary sector together to look at the needs of children and their parents and consider ways in which these could be met more efectively.
In Minsk they visited early intervention centres and the Children’s Home Hospice team. The group were very happy to share their ideas and experience with those they met, and all hope to be involved in training initiatives in the future.
