Growing support for hospice care

Last Autumn members of the Rolls Royce Trade Union in Derby took part in a sponsored walk which raised £3,500 for hospice care in Gomel. They later agreed to give a further £500, which they hope to make an annual donation, for ongoing hospice support.
Part of their money will be used to buy a car for a Hospice Outreach Nurse who will work in Zhlobin and Rogachev. Her salary will be sponsored by the Lifeline Link in Purbeck, who were so impressed when they met the Hospice Nurse in Mozyr whose salary they had sponsored, that they decided they would like to extend this support.
In April we brought Anna Gorchakova, Director of the Belarussian Children’s Hospice in Minsk on a short visit to Britain. After she spoke at the Conference organised by the Belarussian Embassy, an Irish Charity decided they would like to set up a hospice in Mogilev. During the week Anna met a Macmillan Research Fellow in Manchester who agreed to go out to Minsk in June to prepare a training programme in Palliative Care. This initial visit is funded by the Victor Zorza Hospice Trust, and we will be seeking further funding for the training programme which will promote adult palliative care. We hope this will begin in the Autumn and it will involve staff from Springhill Hospice in Rochdale.
