Our plans for the year ahead

Family in need of respite care

Respite Care Centre
An urgent need which became apparent during the recent educational visits was to set up a respite care centre. This would provide week long holidays for children with severe disabilities and give their families a much needed break.
Now the children are happily installed in the new house at Rogachev we have decided to make the creation of a small respite care home our next major project. We will buy a suitable building in Gomel this Spring and then start work soon afterwards on turning it into a comfortable and well equipped home. We have already been offered £10,000 by a company in Solihull to buy a building and the Ely Standard is campaigning to bring in further funds for the renovation and equipping of the centre.

Recuperative Holidays in Britain
We will be chartering planes into Manchester and Birmingham airports again, probably on July 19th and 21st. We hope to launch two or three new groups during the Spring who may initially just host for a fortnight and share with another group. We would be glad to hear from anyone interested in helping to start a new group.

Sanatorium Holidays
We plan to organise another holiday at Neman Sanatorium this Summer for children from Zhuravichi. We are now getting lots of offers from volunteers who would like to devote two weeks to helping the children to have a great holiday. If this appeals to you, and you could raise £250 for your air fare, please contact Glenda Tracey on 01706 378931. She will be organising a planning meeting for all volunteers in the Spring.

Criminal Records Bureau
During the early part of this year we will be submitting names and details of all our host parents and volunteers to the CRB for checking. Each group will have a nominated person responsible for collecting forms and viewing passports.

CCP(UK) Annual Conference

This will take place in Leeds Civic Hall on Sunday April 27th. We welcome all who are interested and hope that all our groups will send representatives. If you would like accommodation please contact Lisa or Sean on 0113 247 5744.
