Zhuravichi Children’s Home

As it may be two or three years before the Cloud Nine Centre can be created, we decided we should put as much support as possible into improving the situation within the orphanage at Zhuravichi.
We have put in ramps for wheelchair access, helped to fund the renovation of the building; provided training for the physiotherapist; and continued to organise the sanatorium holiday (funded by KeyMed) and to send humanitarian aid.
Since the Autumn we have been employing a very experienced special needs teacher to spend one day a week at Zhuravichi. Her role includes: improving the care and education of the children; assessing which children might be moved on to other institutions or even back to their own families, with sufficient support; and organising training for the staff.
She spends a second day visiting special schools or the abandoned babies home, and meeting parents and officials in the education and social protection departments to discuss the childrens’ future.
Raisa, the Director at Zhuravichi, is very supportive of this work.
