Foster care training programme

The Foster Care Training Programme, funded by the Health & Social Care Partnership, on behalf of the Department for International Development, produced some positive results last year.
For the first time there is a reduction in the flow of children entering institutions. Sue Pinner, Joan Mc Lennan and Bev Fogarty, all from North Yorkshire Social Services joined Jean Holt and Geoff Wright in training psychologists, foster carers, directors and staff of the Home for Abandoned Babies.
In October the training, culminated in an extensive campaign to recruit families. Leaflets and booklets were distributed throughout the Gomel Region. Programmes on regional and state TV and radio featured foster families and officials from the Education Department.
"Open Doors" days took place in the institutions, shelters and social centres.
A trolleybus carrying the slogan "Be My Parent" can be seen in the city The result to date is 26 children moved into families, 9 back to their biological family. 28 families offering a home to children for weekends and holidays and foster families forming their own support group.
