| In
2002 we sent four Aid convoys to Belarus, each consisting of three vehicles
and six drivers. Over 75 deliveries were made to 42 locations including
schools, hospitals, childrens homes and family associations. They received a wide variety of items including beds and bedding, hospital furniture and equipment, medical supplies and vitamins, school equipment and sports goods, walking aids, prams, pushchairs and bikes. Other major items included much-needed toiletries and household goods. The convoy teams also took out the building materials for the new Rogachev house and for the orphanage at Zhitkovichi. Two weeks after the 4th convoy returned in November we sent one vehicle with a load including vitamins. With temperatures in Gomel falling to -20c the team of Bryan Selkirk (Catterick) and Mike Allison restricted the round trip to just 8 days. Mike co-ordinates all the aid collection, storage and delivery and John Gater carries out repairs and maintains the safety of all our vehicles. |
