Cloud Nine Centre

In the Spring we started work on a building project in Gomel.
The Education Department had been given a huge kindergarten to turn into a Diagnostic and Rehabilitation Centre.
We agreed to work on one large block of this building and make it suitable for children with severe disabilities, particularly the children from Zhuravichi.
Our earlier plan had been to create a children’s home for about fifteen of the kids from Zhuravichi, which had the working title ‘Cloud Nine’, so this modified project became the Cloud Nine Centre.
Half a dozen volunteers from Britain went out to work on the project and made a great start. But it soon became apparent that the Education Department do not have sufficient funds at present to proceed with their part of the building.
As we were told that we could not open our section in isolation from the rest, we decided to halt work until it becomes clear that resources are available to complete the whole project.
