Holiday plans for summer 2002
We plan to charter two planes from Belavia again this year, to Birmingham and Manchester Airports, on July 20th and 23rd.
In the early part of the Summer we will bring groups of young children for holidays with their mothers. Teesdale will host children in remission from cancer; those coming to Glossop will be children with heart problems; and children with disabilities will go to Gloucester and to Cardiff where they have the support of both the Caerphilly Centre and the Audiology Department of the University Hospital of Wales. The Centre will give therapy and support to children with physical disabilties and the hospital will assess children with hearing problems and provide them with good quality hearing aids. Staff at the hospital are so enthusiastic about bringing deaf and hearing impaired children to Britain for holidays and assessment.that they organised a sponsored walk last Autumn and raised £3,000. Teifi Valley will also host a group of deaf children.

Amongst the children who come over this Summer there will be many in remission from cancer, including teenagers who will spend their holiday in Endon, Aberystwyth and Carmarthen. Blantyre will organise a gentle programme for a group of children with Aplastic Anaemia who have never before been allowed to go abroad. These children have regular blood transfusions and need a drug called Desferal to clear the iron overload from their systems. It is not available in Belarus, so we purchase supplies for them in Britain.
Other groups around the country will host youngsters with heart problems, others who have recently finished hospital treatment, a group of diabetic children and many who come from villages in contaminated parts of Belarus.
Our Child Care Officer Geoff Wright will be responsible for checking out all potential host families with the new Criminal Records Bureau.
