Medical care for Lova in Shrewsbury and Lancaster

Lova is 17 years old and has grown up at Zhuravichi. He came to Britain in January for an operation to rebuild his bladder, but doctors at Shrewsbury Hospital found that his kidneys were not functioning well enough for such a major operation to take place.

They fitted him with a catheter and it is hoped that this will help to improve his kidneys sufficiently for the operation to be possible later in the year. After Shrewsbury Lova moved on to stay with families in Oldham and then Lancaster and received further treatment at Lancaster Infirmary. We were very concerned about him going back to Zhuravichi with his catheter which must be kept clean and free flowing. He would be so far from a hospital if anything went wrong. Then the Rehabilitation Centre in Minsk offered to have him and he is pictured here with his new friends at the Centre where he will not only get the medical care he needs, but the opportunity to gain many new skills and experiences. Lova will be 18 this Summer and then he will move to the home at Duyanovka, which is just a couple of miles from 'Family Home 2000' at Klimovka, so he will be able to join in with all the activities arranged for Sasha, Liena, Greesha and Svieta.
