Mayflower Centre

OUR respite care centre in Gomel is set to expand the wonderful support it gives to children with profound disabilities during the week, by setting up weekend activities for physically disabled young adults. We have received support from an Italian charity, ANPAS, for this and they will be funding an extra member of staff to help with weekend events.

Pat Marsh, Manager of the Woodlands Respite Centre in Cheadle, near Manchester, has played a big role in developing the skills of the Mayflower staff. In September she made her second visit to Gomel to offer further advice and training.

The Minister of Social Protection is enthusiastic about the service offered by the Mayflower Centre. A senior member of her staff will visit Britain in November, along with colleagues from the Education and Finance Ministries. They will see facilities in Britain for children, teenagers and young adults with special needs, and hope to take ideas back with them which they can implement in Belarus.
