FOLLOWING a preliminary discussion at our conference in March, a Working Group has been established to plan activities for the 20th Anniversary of the Chernobyl Disaster. CCP (UK) is working with many other charities under the banner ‘Remember Chernobyl’ to make sure that we all put out a similar message and that we raise maximum awareness and interest next Spring. There will be a joint leaflet, and car stickers, T-shirts, badges and other merchandise bearing the logo; church services, vigils and collections; coffee mornings up and down the country; cultural events and public meetings; and an open air concert in the Summer. In March a National Conference will take place at City Hall in London, organised by Nuclear Free Local Authorities, devoting part of the day to Chernobyl charities. An appeal for more research into the ongoing effects of the accident will be launched later this year and presented to the United Nations on the Anniversary.
