New life
for Ira

Ira and Alla

Ira is fifteen years old and has spent most of her life lying in a cot. She enjoyed her second sanatorium holiday this Summer, and made some new friends like Alla who is a pupil at Rechitsa Boarding School for Children with Cerebral Palsy.
After the holiday Ira moved from Zhuravichi Orphanage to join Olga at school in Rechitsa. We had been told a year ago that some of the children from Zhuravichi might be moved to Rechitsa, where they would get a good education and the chance to join in all kinds of sports and artistic activities. By June this year it had still not happened, so the Project, and our partners the ‘Education Fund’ liaised between the Diagnostic Centre, the Director of Zhuravichi and the Director at Rechitsa, and organised the assessment for the beginning of July. As a result four children have moved to Ulookavye, a lovely orphanage for children with mild learning difficulties and Ira, Lova, Ghenya, Petya and two small children have moved to the school at Rechitsa.
