Our group has been going since 1998. Every year we take between 4 and 6
small children in remission from cancer, with their mums. They come for 3 weeks. Our hosts take them in, in two shifts, so each host or host family has either one or two children for 10-11 days. The children are aged 4-8. While they are with us, we take them on outings (twice to the sea, for example) or just meet up locally. Teesdale is a very attractive rural area, with lovely scenery, places of interest and plenty of fresh air. This year we’ve had five new hosts or host families.
Two of last year’s new host families joined in again, so we are now a larger group, with new blood and plenty of enthusiasm and ideas. Young children in remission from cancer and their mums enjoyed three weeks of sunshine in June when they stayed with our families in Teesdale. The families all built up a great relationship with the children and their mothers and were really sorry to say goodbye to them at the end of the holiday. John Lowles has co-ordinated the group for the last ten years and is now taking a well earned rest!

For the past three weeks, a group of Belarusian children in remission from cancer have been on holiday in Teesdale, Co Durham. As the children are so young, they travel with their mothers, allowing them to also benefit from a great holiday after the stress of watching their children go treatment for cancer.
They are pictured here outside our new charity shop in Crook, Co Durham! The volunteers were delighted to meet the children and learn more about Belarus and how all their hard work helps to support children there.
The mums and children are seen above with Ira Svistun, a long time interpreter for the holidays, Teesdale Group Co-ordinator Ian Findlay, and the shop’s dedicated manager Gerard Hirst.

Our Teesdale group have just said goodbye to their group of five young children in remission from cancer who have had a wonderful three weeks of glorious weather in the countryside. Harry Dick, hosting for the second year is seen here with Valeria (left) who has had leukamia and Anastastia (right) with retinoblastoma. The girls are both just 6 years old.
The Teesdale group have enjoyed hosting mums and children for thirteen years and John Lowles has co-ordinated the group for the last ten years. He is now planning to retire from this role and we would like to thank him for all the great work he has done for the children of Belarus and for our charity.
Our first group of children have arrived to enjoy their summer holiday. Six young children in remission from cancer and their mothers will spend three weeks in Teesdale, enjoying picnics and barbecues and many exciting outings. This will give a major boost to the children’s immune systems and a wonderful holiday to their mums too, who have been through such a stressful time during the children’s illness. The picture shows the group who came last year to Teesdale.
