The South Manchester Group has previously hosted children in remission from cancer along with their mothers.

2010 saw a change for the group. We hosted both diabetic children and children with disabilities. They visited along with a parent or carer. It was an exciting year for the group, with months of fund raising to finance the children’s visit. We co-hosted with the Glossop group this year and it was great to be able to visit the children during their stay at Glossop. We were introduced before they came to stay with our group.

We are a very social group and didn’t let the English weather spoil the fun. Once the children had settled in with their host families, We went straight into the schedule of planned activities.

The trip to the Nova centre at Lido beach was again successful with the staff showing great hospitality to all the children. The children loved the swimming pools and slides. Thank you to Elizabeth and Graham for great organisation of this day.

The Group also enjoyed an activity day at St Peters leisure Centre Burnley with trampolining, swimming and Pizza making. We would like to Thank  Neil Hutchinson and all the staff at the centre for their kindness and patience with the children and use of the facilities and of course to Jennifer for her part in the brilliant day including the magic show at her house later that day.

The visit to Red House Farm was brilliant, The rain kept away and the children loved the maize maize and tractor rides. The staff were as fabulous this year, as they have been in previous years, and the children worked up a big appetite for the bbq at Elizabeth and Graham’s house after. Thank you both again for the brilliant food and planning of the day.

Blackpool Zoo was another great day with the children laughing and enjoying all the animals. Maxim said this was his favourite day! Thanks to Hilda and Dennis for organising this day again.

Special mention to Geryl for the super tea party at her house . Great food followed by a display from a dancing dog  which left the children squealing with delight.  Brilliant…..

We enjoyed many visits to local parks during the stay and time flew by. We had a very special leaving party organised by Suzie and Al. It was Ghenya’s 5th birthday and Suzie had made him a special cake and he loved blowing the candles out. The children’s treasure hunt was great but it appeared as though the adults had just as much fun as the children!! Thanks to Suzie and Al for a great party to celebrate the children’s visit.

Thank you to all members of the group for all their efforts in ensuring that this year was a great holiday for all the children.
