Glossop and New Mills Group

Our Group in the High Peak

The Glossopdale group has been going strong ever since the charity was set up in 1995. Over the last 20 years we have given recuperative holidays to well over 100 pre-school children in remission from cancer, who have come with their Mums for 3 weeks of fresh air, clean food and lots of fun. The holidays give their immune systems a great boost, and also offers psychological benefits for their Mums – many of whom were very young or born around the time of the Chernobyl disaster.

In 2017 our group expanded to include New Mills and Hayfield as well as Glossop. This has meant we have found lots of lovely new families, so that fresh ideas have combined with long standing supporters’ experience and made an enthusiastic, lovely group. This year, for the first time in many years, we will invite 10 year old children in remission from cancer, who will stay in pairs with host families. We are always on the lookout for new Hosts and supporters, so please get in touch if you’d like to help!

Every year we hold Fun Days, stalls and coffee mornings to raise money, and our most successful fundraisers last year were a Promises Auction and a sponsored ‘Snowdon Horseshoe Challenge’ by some enthusiastic Vodafone employees! We also receive many generous donations, often from people who have been involved with the visiting children over the years. This year, we are planning another Auction and a sponsored hike up Kinder Scout in April. If you’d like to get involved, please let us know.
