CCP Monk Fryston Group stages successful fashion show

Stately Monk Fryston Hall between Leeds and Selby was the venue for a fashion show with a difference.  As well as showcasing a range of striking and elegant fashion created by recent fashion graduates and supplied by top local fashion shops, the show appealed to all the senses, with a demonstration of chocolate making by local chocolatiers  and music by swing singer David Lewis.

About 70 people attended the fashion show on November 9th in aid of the Chernobyl Children’s Project (UK.

The event, organised by Sam O’Brien, a member of the charity’s Monk Fryston Group, featured fashion created by graduates of the University of Huddersfield and supplied by top fashion shops, Exetera, Affair and Leading Ladies, all based in Pontefract.

Students from Wakefield College made a big contribution to the success of the evening. The models included dance students who not only modelled the clothes, but also showed their skills in dance and choreography. Hair and make up, and flower arrangements, were all by Wakefield College students.

A display of chocolate making was given by Viv Campbell. Viv and her husband Paddy run Chocoholics, a high quality chocolate shop in Ossett, West Yorkshire and swing singer David Lewis provided the musical entertainment.

Sam O’Brien said: “We are incredibly grateful to everyone who gave their time and support to make this such a successful event. Monk Fryston Hall gave us the perfect venue free of charge and their friendliness and hospitality on the night made a big contribution. The event provided a brilliant showcase of local skills, talent and fashion and we are very grateful for everyone’s time and effort.”

The proceeds will help pay for recuperative holidays hosted by local families. Every summer Monk Fryston CCP group hosts about 12 children from the Gomel region of Belarus whose lives have been blighted by the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in 1986 which left vast tracts of land across Belarus contaminated.

A few weeks of fresh air and clean, uncontaminated food boosts the health of these children whose immune systems has been damaged by eating food containing radio-nuclides.
