TREKING EXPEDITION TO K2 BASE CAMP IN THE KARAKORUM MOUNTAINS – JUNE/JULY 2012

A trip is being organised to northern Pakistan by Chris Broome (Chernobyl Children Life Line coordinator for the Midlands and South Yorkshire) this coming summer (June/July) to trek into the Karakorum range (Concordia area) of the majestic Himalayan mountains. The trip, as well as being a once in a life time experience, will also be used to raise awareness and the profile of Chernobyl charities both in the UK and hopefully across Europe. Details of the trek have been given to several other UK Chernobyl charities. We are also extending the invitation to Chernobyl charities in Europe through the European Chernobyl Network (ECN) of which CCLL and CCP(UK) were two of the founding members. A performance by Ginny Davis, “Ten Days That Shook The Kitchen”. This is a one-woman show: Very funny, recognisable, good entertainment. Ginny Davis is a writer and performer who specialises in comedic, one-woman monologues on the subject of family life. Specialists From Belarus Arrive

Christmas Joy for Mums and Children

A group of 6 mums and children have enjoyed a very special Christmas and New Year in Longnor. The group have had a fabulous time staying altogether at High Ash Farm and a few days with host families. Sadly their recuperative holiday has now come to an end and they will be flying back to Belarus on Wednesday 4th January.

Aid Convoy

On November 25th a truck loaded with nappies and disability aids will set off for Belarus, and will be accommpanied by a minibus, equipped with a wheelchair lift which we have been able to buy with a generous donation from Crook for Chernobyl Children

European Chernobyl Children’s Network

The second Annual Meeting of the European Chernobyl Children’s Network took place in Dortmund on November 5th and 6th. It was hosted by IBB, a German organisation which supports many social and environmental initiatives in Belarus. Chernobyl Children’s Project (UK) was one of the founding organisations of the network, which came together in November 2010 (picture left) to plan for the 25th Anniversary of the Disaster.

Joint iniatives now include a Visa Declaration which will be presented to Euroepan Union Officials and Ministers once it has gathered further support.
